The latest 'Cunarder' became a reality today as the giant steel skeleton was lowered into place at the Italian shipyard in Trieste. The first section weighing in at 360 tonnes marks the ceremonial keel laying which will result in the second largest cunarder ever being built.

As the 'Queen Elizabeth' went on sale to World Club Members, Cunard were overwhelmed with bookings. The Maiden voyage was 'Sold Out' within half an hour, with other dates proving to be as popular.

The new 92,000-ton liner, to be named ‘Queen Elizabeth’ has been ordered and is scheduled to enter service in the autumn of 2010. Cunard have signed an agreement with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for the construction of the new 2092-passenger ocean liner, which will be built at their Monfalcone yard at an all-in cost of approximately €500 million. The vessel will be the second largest Cunarder ever built.
